Christmas Updates

I hope that everyone has a wonderful and prosperous New Year and a fruitful Christmas.  I know I will.  My book is coming along splendidly and it should be done by mid January.  If you would like to see what I’ll be doing in the fashion department go to properetiquette-demers.blogspot.com  Above is a sneak peak of an image in my up-and-coming book, “Ouroboros.” I’m very excited to get everything in order so I can send it in for the final publishing stages.

Fiber Extravaganza!!!

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of going to Minneapolis on a fiber hunting trip with my studio practices class.  It was a blast!  I purchased several satins, silks, and velvets for the up-and-coming Juried Art Exhibition.  The show will be this Spring, and further updates will be posted.  I shopped at S.R. Harris, and Mill End Textiles, if anyone is interested in visiting Minnesota any time soon.

“Ouroboros”

Today, I was given the opportunity to publish a book that is currently being created.  So at the end of the school year, which is around May I should have about 1,000 copies of my book respectively named, “Ouroboros.”  At the end of the semester, which is in December, I should have a couple of images that I’ll be able to post up for you to take a peek at.  Thanks for checking in.

Since I was going through my photography, I thought I’d share with you one of my favorite techniques of photomanipulation, and that is camera wobbling.  I really enjoyed this photograph because it made me think about our American culture and how it’s always go go go.  I captured this in the small town of Norway.  You’d think that they would have no where important to be that would instigate speeding…
…But they do.

I’m on a food binge, here’s another one for the wall.  I was in highschool with my new camera.  It is now lunch time and I see what they’ve got going.  Sitting there in a menacing metal tray was this funky colored broccoli.  Now mind you, I thought it was a pretty green, but one that I don’t associate with my veggies.

This is a picture that I took in my senior year of high school. It’s been a while since then. I was recently introduced to pomegranates, and I thought that they looked fascinating! Little edible jewels in a honeycomb formation. I had to capture it. So around this time I recently purchased a camera and decided that it was the perfect subject for my first few shots, and here it is in all of its juicy glory.

Peel, pluck and enjoy.

This is a closeup image of a surface design I did in my Surface Design and Textiles class.  I started out with a white piece of muslin, and then I dyed it a dark fuchia color.  After that I silk screened an illustration by Proper Etiquette onto it.  I absolutely hated the thing.  So what I did was use the arashi shibori technique and poured a discharge formula over it.  After it was washed, dried and pressed I absolutely fell in love with it.  I love the colors and the pattern.  I can’t wait to do more.

This is the product of an assignment in my Color and Composition class.  There was a list that we could chose from, and I ended up picking Human/Animal Relationship.  This image is suppose to make you feel like the animal.  The person is drawn in black and white with hints of red on intentional areas.   The lips, eyes, hands, and fur.  I chose these areas because people talk about what’s happening, they see it, they kill animals themselves and the animals suffer for it.  The black and white is used because I feel that the issue is black and white.

I attend dance classes every weekend, so I thought this was a motivational video. So beautiful, the dancers and the music.
