1 of the 3 pieces recognized as Orgasm. This piece won the 2008 Best of Show award in the Finlandia University juried art exhibition.
There’s a very simple reason why I decided to do this piece. Freshman year, I’ve never experienced an orgasm. I was alone in my room and then…well….I did. And it was a really interesting sensation. So I wanted to try and depict it in a picture. It felt like a was floating in space, or drowning in a sea. An ebb of electricity pulsed through my body, and I wanted to do it again.
I didn’t want it to be completely obvious that the subject was climaxing. I depicted myself with a slightly arched back and an elongated neck to express a slight, but pleasant tension. The use of red symbolizing lust. The pale palor to suggest that my blood flow had better places to go, and the final touch of glasses to indicate that it was a spontaneous action.
As a side note: I didn’t go about this in a perverted way. No, I looked at it as being a new sensation when I thought I had felt them all. It was like being a child and tasting something sweet for the first time. A first kiss kind of vibe.
